Welcome to a new post! I am going to talk about the SIMPLE PAST uses in English.......ovvero sugli usi del Simple Past in Inglese. Il Simple Past corrisponde all'Imperfetto e al Passato Remoto in Italiano ed è presente sotto forma di verbi regolari e irregolari. Si deve tenere in considerazione l'unità temporale o meglio fare riferimento al TEMPO come unico elemento principale, punto focale.
Si usa il SIMPLE PAST per indicare:
1. azioni passate, concluse e terminate in un momento "preciso" e "specifico" del PASSATO. Si riferisce ad azioni concluse in un tempo specifico e che potrebbero non ripetersi più.
ESEMPIO: I knew John in 1985, and since then we have never let. (IT: Conobbi John nel 1985 e da allora non ci siamo mai lasciati).
Lat year we went to Spain for our holidays (IT: L'anno scorso andammo in Spagna per le vacanze).
2. Azioni che accadevano contemporaneamente nel passato.
ESEMPIO: At the junction I took the right while Michael turned in the left (IT: all'incrocio, io presi la destra mentre Michael girò a sinistra).
3. Azioni ripetute.
ESEMPIO: My brother applied for a VISA six times before he got one (IT: Mio fratello fece domanda 6 volte per un visto, prima di riuscire ad ottenerlo).
4. Sequenze di azioni.
ESEMPIO: Spiderman flew over the sky and then used his web to jump over the roofs and land in the ground (IT: L'uomo Ragno volava sopra il cielo e poi usava la sua ragnatela per saltare sui tetti e atterrare al suolo).
5. Azioni risultanti da altre
ESEMPIO: Wall Street traders lost a fortune when the Asian markets collapsed (I mercati di Wall Street perdevano una fortuna, mentre quelli asiatici collassavano).
6. Stati del passato.
ESEMPIO: We lived in London for seven years (IT: Abbiamo vissuto a Londra per 7 anni).
Ed ora vediamo come si formano:
Nei verbi regolari si forma aggiungendo la desinenza -ED alla forma base del verbo come in LIVE/LIVED STOP/STOPPED ASK/ASKED LIVE/LIVED.
Come verbi irregolari si hanno invece:

ECCEZIONI IMPORTANTI riguardano i vb READ dove read al SIMPLE PAST E PAST PARTICIPLE si legge "red" e LEARN dove LEARNED si legge "learnt" (pronuncia più muta che sonora).
